HIGHLIGHTS AT THE USITT
CONVENTION IN PHOENIX
FOR LIGHTING PEOPLE
This fire effect was created by rotating ColorWave 33102 Ripple-Amber with steel gobo 78235 Sphere Breakup in a Rosco Vortex Rotator used with an ETC Source Four.

Every lighting designer has to do it three or four times every season! The mandate is to create a visual simulation of rain or fire or reflected water. But fire ranges from blazing (see the illustration above) to flickering to smoldering and rain from drizzling to drenching. Working with ordinary spotlights and some modest accessories, Josh Alemany shows you how to get exactly the effect you need most efficiently.

FOR SCENIC PEOPLE
The binder in scene paint can dramatically affect how and when you should use the paint.

The paint we use for scenery, costumes or props contains a binder that is either casein, vinyl acrylic or latex and the difference n results can be enormous. In this workshop, Jen Knott shows you how each type of paint might be used for best results and offers a dozen tips for using scene paint safely, efficiently and intelligently.

NEW PRODUCTS AT THE ROSCO BOOTH

The Rosco Delta Hazer's 4-liter bottle holds enough fluid for four hours of continuous operation.
Rosco's Delta Hazer runs on a water-based fluid, thus ending forever the plague of haze machines that left oily residues on sensitive lighitng equipment. Its 1,000 watt heat exchanger and high quality blower generate the kind of haze every lighting designer wants - allowing the light beams to be seen, but without obscuring performers or stage or concert settings.

Despite it affordable price, the Delta Hazer provides all the features concert and theatrical designers require. These include on-board DMX, low fluid sensors and auto timers. A continuous self-cleaning feature insures long equipment life.

A 3' x 6' LitePad unit was attached to the back wall of the proscenium, about 18" from the actor entering the doorway.
LitePad allows designers to add a soft even light in places where conventional luminaries won't fit and where reflected light would not be adequate. This slim profile source is only 0.3" (7.6 mm) thick, but its powerful LEDs provide more than enough illumination for display, architectural and production lighting for film, TV, theatre and live entertainment.

The LitePad source, available in six different sizes, generates virtually no heat and requires only a few watts of power. A simple transformer is supplied with each source.
