USING PROJECTED IMAGES

All the stage pictures shown here were created largely with ImagePro projections. The designers made I-Pro plastic slides at a fraction of the cost of custom gobos. In fact, some of these I-Pro slides were actually produced by the designers, on their own inkjet printers!

You can get results like these on your own stage. The ImagePro Projector will fit your standard ellipsoidal reflector spotlight (ETC Source Four, Strand SL, Altman Shakespeare or Selecon Pacific). You can choose the image you want from Rosco's library of images, available online or on the CD supplied with the projector, or you can create the slide yourself, or you can have it done for you in just 24 hours. In any case, you'll have a projected full color image that is bright, visible and will last between 15 and 50 hours.

CREATING STAGE PICTURES WITH GOBOS

Now there is an easy, inexpensive way to add brilliant and colorful effects to your lighting designs.

Rosco's glass gobos are standard products, usually available immediately. When used in conjunction with standard steel gobos, the effects can be stunning. Two samples are shown above...but you can create your own combinations from the available range of gobos.

There are several types of glass gobos, including Prismatics. These gobos include tiny chips of imbedded dichroic color glass in six different styles. Color Waves are also glass gobos, but each is a unique texture coated in one of five dichroic colors.

All the gobos are available in 'B' size designed to fit virtually all brands of profile spotlights.

USING COLOR FILTERS

Kevin Rigdon

"I USED COLOR TO PROVIDE SEPARATION AND FOCUS"
Most people use Roscolux filters in stage lighting to establish the time of day or to help convey a mood.

In the hands of the most sensitive designers, Roscolux filters can do a lot more. Take Kevin Rigdon, for example. He used Roscolux filters to provide both separation and focus within a scene ... and the work was so brilliant he was nominated for Tony Awards in both scenery and lighting for that production! Here is how Kevin Rigdon describes it:

"With the wide open scenic design of The Grapes Of Wrath, I had to rely heavily on color to provide separation and focus within a scene. In the scene shown here, I lit the foreground with R68 (Sky Blue) as a back light and R67 (Light Sky Blue) from the side. This created a crisp, cool look. The action upstage is bathed in warm, lush R20 (Medium Amber) from diagonal front shin busters."

Contrasting the crisp, cool Roscolux blue colors with the warmth of Roscolux Medium Amber helped generate a sense of separation and additional focus on the actors upstage. It also created a beautiful and appropriate stage picture.

Kevin Rigdon used three different Roscolux colors to create this moment in The Grapes Of Wrath. He describes both his goals and his technique in the text below.

This is a scene from A Streetcar Named Desire, in the Broadway revival production lit by Kevin Rigdon. The playwright describes the poker scene as having "the lurid nocturnal brilliance of Van Gogh's painting of a billiard parlor at night." Rigdon, seeking to follow Tennessee Williams' description, used R11 (Light Straw) in a soft down light, R09 (Pale Amber Gold) in high backlights and R365 (Tharon Delft Blue) with gobos.
