| Ken Billington, a Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award winner for lighting design, recently had to design the lighting for the touring production of "Dreamgirls". One of the problems Billington faced was to get footlights in place on stages everywhere. This included some stages where space, especially depth, was at a minimum.
He solved the problem by specifying LitePads. These LED units are only 1/8" deep. LitePads, originally introduced for film, TV and still photographic lighting provide a soft, even, diffuse light. Billington used the standard rectangular sizes (LitePads are made in six different rectangular or square sizes.) A cutout of circles was affixed over the units and the LitePads, which produce a white light, were gelled with Roscolux.
The "Dreamgirls" tour, with its innovative LitePad footlights, played in nearly two dozen cities around the United States.
